My girlfriend & I witnessed a COYOTE in SANTA ANA near CABRILLO PARK! Driving north on Cabrillo just passing Fruit St. I noticed the COYOTE dart across Cabrillo Street and headed straight into SHADY HOLLOW. 1275 WESTON SQ. to be exact. I quickly made a u-turn and followed the COYOTE into SHADY HOLLOW. I was fortunate enough to get a short video before we lost the COYOTE. The COYOTE ran down a narrow trail with houses on both sides so i was unable to pursue it.

There are a pack of coyotes living at the Dad Miller Golf Course in Anaheim.
It runs next to Savanah High School.   They are pretty bold as they didn’t scare very easily.
There could be attacks soon on golfers,  especially young children who golf there and wander into the brush.   There are at least five coyotes near the 18th hole.

My dog was taken by a coyote last night from my patio in Corsica Villas off jamboree and bison as I let him out to go potty. There was no noise and he didn’t bark at all which he always did. Just saw traces of his pee outside the patio as he was obviously terrified. I’m utterly devastated and can not begin to think about life without my best friend. Something must be done about this!!

Does anyone know of a coyote-safe place in west Hutington Beach where one can walk a little dog?  I’ve heard reports about several parks where we walk him and am getting pretty paranoid!

    I posted on sept 22 615 am
I live off parks and rosecrans in Fullerton
There was a coyote next to my house sniffing around sept 22 615 am wasn’t afraid of me …. Took about 15 mins to get him out of my neighborhood… He ran across arms road into the neighborhood of Camino Rey/Grissom park
Tonight I was on my deck about 8pm and a coyote was on Parks rd heading down the hill toward rosecrans
Something sent it back up parks rd a couple mins later
I have two very small dogs….for anyone that has had encounter with coyotes,I’m sure you’ll understand… I moved from Anaheim hills back home to Fullerton just a couple months ago. I cannot afford to move anywhere else at the moment… But the coyotes in Anaheim hills are out of control…you couldn’t take your dog out at any hour of the day without fear. Packs of 3-5 roamed my neighborhood at all hours… And would jump my 6 foot fence like it was nothing while me and my dogs were on my balcony
Since the fire, the coyotes don’t seem to be any different out here
I tried to catch a loose dog last night and was unable to. Please do not take this lax. Coyotes will stalk, will hide in bushes, will try to get any small pet leash or not when it’s Hungry. My ex let my cat out on accident two years ago around 1030 pm. By 1130 he was killed. I went out looking for him. Ran up and down the street, flashlight, screaming….these predators will take anything they can get… One slip and my baby, my best friend was taken from me. I will never forgive myself. Please be aware and don’t let your pets Wander. Don’t be naive and think it won’t happen to you: please. It can and will unless you’re careful.

We don’t live near Laguna, but have same problem in Yorba Linda/Placentia. Just lost one of my cats last Friday. Had no idea of the problem and hear it’s become worse because of the drought. Sadly, even daytime isn’t safe based on what I’ve read, but definitely no unleashed pets out at night. 🙁

Saw two massive coyotes last night running full speed in Irvine by UCI along Harvard Ave between Marquette & Bridge towards University. They are everywhere around here, and they hide in bushes. They breed in Mason Park at the corner of University and Harvard. I saved my dogs life a yr ago from one by standing up to it and screaming as loud as I could. They dont like loud noises. Be wary if you live around here and have a small pet..

Hi Bryan, Long story short, my Chihuahua, Lucy was attacked August 3, 2014 at about 11pm while my boyfriend took the dogs out for one last bathroom break before we lock them in for the night (there were 2 coyotes in our yard. My boyfriend stood 2 to 3 feet from Lucy on our lighted patio. You are right, coyotes are not afraid of humans. Lucy went into surgery today….3 separated ribs from her spine on one side and 2 on another and a punctured diaphragm. I just got word from the doctor that Lucy made it out of surgery successfully and is in recovery.

This was the second incident in my backyard. In 2010, a coyote killed my Pomeranian. I took precautions, raised my wall to 6 feet, added coyote rollers, but the neighbors to the side of me did not want them on the fence cause they were ugly, I pick up poop everyday and don’t leave trash out..
I wrote the city, went to city hall council meetings and the tree hungers were protesting not to kill the coyotes. The city didn’t do anything. I spoke with All City Animal Trapping. They are a private company that comes out and traps coyotes. They charge 200 for the traps and they leave them out for one month and each coyote they catch cost $125 and then they euthanize them. perhaps neighbors can get together who have lost a pet and share the costs of trapping the coyotes. Just a thought. Sam

my Cat was just killed by a couple Coyotes In Tustin off of Newport and walnut. We have had at least  3 cats killed in 2 days . We try to get him in the night it happened,But he ran away from us. We had no Idea they were even in the area. Very heart breaking to see a cat beheaded, and its body everywhere on a childs play area. And to walk a few feet and see your own cat dead. My family will never be the same. We put poster all over the neighborhood!!!!!! hopefully that helps. Animal control was called and nothing was done about it ass of now.

I get so frustrated when people blame cat owners for letting their cats outside because a lot of these cats that are killed are indoor cats that get out. My main coon Max got out one afternoon and was found 2 blocks over killed by a coyote (this is in Yorba Linda near Gypsum Canyon and La Palma near the Santa Ana Riverbed). I’ve spotted a huge coyote crossing the street in the past on La Palma coming from a residential neighborhood and escaping into the riverbed. About 2 months back a cat was mauled by a coyote in the same area. 2 weeks ago I spotted 2 coyotes while driving around midnight on E. Santiago Canyon Road. I circled my car around to see if they were in fact coyotes and they were not afraid of me or my car. Last week My cat Sylvester opened a hole in the window screen (I assume at night)- He survived- but his fur is all over the front of our house and all of his back claws are bloody nubs- he hasn’t been himself the last few days. My husband found our other cat roaming the backyard in the morning, who escaped from the same screen. We KNOW it is dangerous outside and we are constantly panicked that someone will accidentally let our cats out or they will escape and be killed. I am sick of people saying it is cat owners faults (all of the cats in this neighborhood that were occasionally let outside in the past are dead) A friend in Yorba Linda watched a coyote jump the wall and take her little dog in broad daylight! I am sick of being traumatized by these coyotes and in fear for our pets and little children who live along the santa ana riverbed. I don’t remember there being a problem with them until that huge fire a few years back that swept through Corona and the riverbed and took out tons of houses in Yorba Linda- I think it brought all the coyotes to our backdoor. BTW- I hike with my husband along the train tracks and we see Coyote tracks constantly…..I’m actually afraid to walk or run at night by myself in our neighborhood.

I completely agree 100%. Yes they are house pets and are kept inside but we are not perfect you turn your head for one second and it’s too late. Everyone will make a mistake sooner or later and there pets they don’t know there is a massive coyote hiding behind the wall waiting for them. I live in the area as well in the apartment complex. These are there hunting grounds they are coming out earlier as early 8pm. They come straight in complex and hide in the bushes. This is a problem! They are not scared of us either I have seen them on many occasions and unless I start screaming or honking they just will sit there. This is a problem! It’s like they are taking over our area of living we no longer feel safe, always worried that all the doors are shut. I also do not like how people say that we took there land ..where are they supposed to go.. Ummm… Am I the only one that notices these mountain areas around us! How about there! Or what about the tons of rats and jack rabbits jumping around! I’m sorry for your loss, I’m still grieving on mine and what you just said is something I have been thinking and just didn’t get the chance to say it out loud.  Thank you!

This morning at 5:15am – a large coyote ran out of the “Continental” complex (cross streets Brookhurst & Adams) as I was leaving, crossed Brookhurst Street into the residential neighborhood.

Slightly terrifying as I had JUST finished walking my small dog (corgi).

Hi Cassie,  Yes, the coyotes right now are very active.   A lot of people walk their dogs with a large stick or one of those self defense canes like you see advertised on this page.   Probably a good idea especially if you have a small dog.   Thanks for posting and glad your dog was at home when the coyote came out.   We are on facebook as well.

Sighting 1: Huge one a few weeks ago (sorry just found your website) around 5am, exited Mile Square Park, heading East across Euclid into the produce farm at the corner of Euclid and Heil.
Sighting 2: Last Friday night at 3am, in the flood control channel between Stonecress and Camelia/Mt Olsen/Mt Fletcher. It wanted my dog, actually became MORE aggressive when it saw me appear over the wall! ZERO fear of humans! Lucky it didn’t come over the 6′ wall – I only just read that they can easily jump 10′! The current info they tell people about these “American song dogs” is outdated and naive. Ignorant groups like Project Coyote Are RIGHT NOW trying to change the laws so we can’t hurt them, or opossums, or even rodents!

There have been a lot of coyotes spotted in the past month in the Cordata Park area of Fountain Valley. Sometimes alone, sometimes in packs. They seem to travel via the flood control channels. They have been seen walking in the park and neighborhood during daylight hours. They have menaced dogs on leashes. Most of the outdoor cats in the neighborhood have vanished over the past few years. Seems the problem is much worse than before but Animal Control only states they will scare coyotes away, they won’t remove them. This seems like a situation that will only get worse.

Yes! The authorities are waiting for Mother Nature to fix the problem. They believe the coyotes will overpopulate, over hunt their food source, then starve and succumb to disease until the vast majority of the coyote population is wiped out. But we are not seeing that happen just yet.

What good is your Map doing????? I looked at the map… Until we kill them your map will just keep growing!!!! And then what????  Please tell me!!! And don’t say “they were here before us”… If you believe that and support them then get out!!!! Stop crying!!!! Lived here for over 60 years, and have not seen one…. Maybe you people brought them here, or you have invited them here???? Just a question is all… When I grew up here there were none!!!!! Something has changed!!!! Not me nor my family!!!!!

Hi John,  I agree they were NOT here before us.  If they were, the number of them would not be enough to cause a problem.   That is what we are arguing against.  Im not sure if this message is for the site or someone else.  But,  I agree with you.   Yes, the map will keep growing until someone does something.  They have 6 to 19 pups a litter.  That is exactly the point.   I am very glad you posted,  because that is what I keep saying.  It used to be that kids could walk the dog safely, now it would be irresponsible for me to allow my child do that when we know they come and take dogs off the leash.   So,  Thank you!!!

The coyote problem in Huntington Beach is out of control. Warning signs and hazing are not the solution folks. If you want to say that they were here before us, and they have a right to be here, that’s fine. But there is a time coming, very soon, when a pack of coyotes are going to drag off a small child and tear him or her to pieces. Meat is meat to these opportunists. They don’t know the difference. When that happens, everyone is going to be all for eradicating these pests. But why does a child have to die in order for people to arouse themselves from their apathetic stupor? Be active now. Realize the threat we’re facing with realism. It’s not okay that coyotes are eating our pets with impunity. They’re habituated, and that should spell danger to you. Let’s act now before something really regrettable takes place.

Don’t like them?.. maybe you should move. =) When humans keep building and building on THEIR homes eventually they will be left with close to nothing if not nothing, and that is why we see more and more of these animals.
Give them their homes back and take a hike. I am grateful for every single one of them.

Yes, they definatly use the railroad tracks.  The people living along the tracks are losing animals and cant keep them out.  They are having to try to make their walls higher or install devices on the walls to keep them out of the yard.

Our cat was attacked 3:00 a.m. June 16th off of Beach and Newman – neighbors happened to be awake and saw two of them chasing our cat under a car – fortunately he fought and got away but was injured and has had surgery – very costly I might add – the two approached our cat again on our steps to our apartment and the same neighbor shoed them away again – very aggressive animals…..

Thanks Jane,  I will add it to the map.  They love the golf courses.   If you live near a golf course you need to be extra careful.    About a month ago, over by Fairview, Costa Mesa, on the golf course, the coyotes were going nuts, howling and there was no doubt that it was mating season.   People also need to be aware now that puppies are going to make them more aggressive to protect them and hungry to feed them.

Coyote attacked our 34 lb Terrier last night through the backyard fence from the Alta Vista Golf Course at about 7PM.  I heard her struggling so went to help her.  Got her away from the coyote, who had a hold of her head.  She is OK, but frightened.   Near Chapman & Orangethorpe on the Alta Vista Golf Course at the 16th Tee Box.

Thank goodness you were there.  I am glad she is okay.  I am also glad you are okay after trying to save your dog!  I will add this to the map.  The coyotes love Golf Courses.    Being so close you are going to have to watch constantly.

Beverly, if you could give me a couple cross streets I could map it.   Its a large park so I wasnt sure where to place either the bobcat or the coyote.  Thank you

I looked on the map and that shows a residential area.   Not really an area where you would expect to see them!    That should be called in to the police.     Also, can you put it in our tracker system?   Link above on this page for the Wildlife Tracking Form.     Let us know what they say.  Thanks for posting!
