Date Of Incident Type Of Incident City Of Incident Animal or Person Involved? Comments (that you dont mind being public)
10/29/12 Killed Irvine Other Last night we heard the something getting killed by the pack of coyotes that has been terrorizing our area for a year now. They have killed many dogs and cats, but I’m not sure what they killed last night. Hearing it was awful. It happens all the time.
10/27/12 Injury Huntington Beach Dog I was walking my dog in the park/school area. A large coyote entered from

a side street and scoped out the area. The coyote saw a guy walking

a small dog off leash across the park and took off after it. The man started

yelling to scare off the animal, the coyote grabbed the dog right in front

of the man. With luck, the little dog managed to break free and get away.

At this point the man was able to pick up the pup and get away.  The coyote

went behind the school to  wait for another pet to show up. We managed to

scare him away into the neighborhood. It showed no fear of us.

10/26/12 Sighting Huntington Beach Adult and Pet My son and I were walking our two Pomeranians down Ramona at 11:45 PM.  We noticed a coyote stalking us from a distance of about 100 feet.  It was following us.  When it realized that we had spotted it, it crossed the street and passed us on the other side, It then proceeded to the next street where it crossed into the next housing tract.
10/25/12 Sighting Huntington Beach None Coyote was walking in Edison park, along the back property lines of homes, headed towards Hamilton Avenue. When it came to where the electric towers are, it intersected paths with a dog and his master. The animals engaged in a stare off, then the master guided the dog around the bushes to the sidewalk in order to avoid the coyote. The coyote proceeded to lay down. This has been reported to Animal Control, as well. Last week, we could hear the coyotes howling/crying at Edison park about 10pm. Not sure what they killed.
10/24/12 Sighting Newport Beach None I saw one and chased it around corner with flood light.  There may have been 2 as I continued to hear noise behind a wall.  My pets were fine.  I have yet to check w/my neighbors.
10/24/12 Sighting Mission Viejo None Spotted a medium-sized lone coyote this morning just inside a neighborhood. I must have startled it and ran across the street and into a gully that goes through the neighborhood. My guess is that it was hunting for smaller domesticated animals.
10/23/12 Killed North Tustin Dog coyote got into an enclosure that was completely animal proofed and secure.
10/22/12 Sighting La Habra Other 2 coyotes sighted. The first crossed West Road going west with a small animal dangling from its mouth. The second crossed in the same direction further down the road around Melgar Drive.
10/21/12 Killed Huntington Beach Cat A half eaten cat was found Sunday morning about 9:00 a.m., October 21, across the sidewalk, where several weeks ago a neighbors cat was taken by a coyote and found two blocks away, inside the grounds of the Huntington Beach Landmark complex. The City says we have to learn to get along with coyotes but they are running free in our neighborhoods, killing and eating our pets because the city officials are not proactive in geting rid of the threat.

People should not be afraid to take their pet for a walk in their neighborhood or letting their pet play in their back yard. Pets for many, especially older citizens, are their primary companion, for younger families, a pet is a member of that family. Coyotes are “Wild” predators who do not care that we may may spent thousands of dollars caring for our pet over the years and they are just looking for free meal.

Coyotes are dangerous animals and require management by animalc ontrol, Fish and Game,or the forest service. There are too many of them, and they have no natural predators to thin them out. Are we, the people, being chased and hurt by coyotes less important than the coyotes?

Public safety includes peace of mind, for our families and our pets.

10/21/12 Sighting Huntington Beach Cat Coyote was sighted with fresh kill, may have been a domestic cat.
10/20/12 Sighting Huntington Beach None One coyote about 50/60 lbs trotting down sandpiper lane
10/15/12 Sighting Huntington Beach None Coyote sighting occurred on the cross streets of Huntington Street and Seventeenth Street at 8 a.m. The coyote appeared calm and not bothered by cars driving by it. I was walking on foot  on the opposite side of the street from it and roughly eight feet away from it, yet it did not seem to notice me. The coyote was spotted walking on the side walk of Seventeenth Street. There is a bus stop for an elementary school nearby, please do not let children under 10 years old walk to school or to bus stops by themselves. Children under 10 years old are more likely to be attacked since they are easy prey. .

10/15/12 Sighting Huntington Beach Adult and Pet
10/13/12 Sighting Huntington Beach Adult Large individual, > 50 LBS. Spotted in the park from the street (behind a chain-link fence). It was walking along the fence inside the park.

I initially thought it was a stray dog, due to it’s size, until it raised it’s head to look at my car while I was driving by.

I parked and exited my vehicle in order to make a “Connection” and “Haze” the Coyote as Instructed by the City of Huntington Beach and their “Living with Coyotes” video.

http://www.huntingtonbeachca.gov/residents/videos/hbtv3/coyote-meeting.cfm

HOWEVER, The Coyote did not flee or seem otherwise bothered when “Hazed” by raising arms yelling in a stern loud voice.

THIS INDIVIDUAL LACKS A NATURAL FEAR OF PEOPLE.

Please be cautious in the area.

10/13/12 Killed Huntington Beach Cat
10/12/12 Killed Huntington Beach Cat My Cat was eaten by a coyote at Magnolia and Adams (Mediterranean Drive) on Friday a.m. 10/12/12 (prints looks like maybe three coyotes) come to find out my cat is one of three cats taken off my street alone in the past two weeks. They have found a new food chain. Yet if a domestic animal attacks a person or animal that animal is taken and killed…yet the City of HB states they “Take a report” – Do you think the animals killed regard taking a report as an action? REALLY? We need to find the dens and take care of them like they are taking our loved ones.
10/11/12 Sighting Huntington Beach Child and Pet I was walking my 2yr old granddaughter and our little kitty was following us. It was Thursday 10/11/12 at 12 noon. We were walking north on Alabama Street. When we got two houses from Utica a coyote ran in front of us. A car followed him and told me to get the baby and kitty away. He called the police but was told he had to call animal control. The coyote stood staring at him on the green space at Utica between Lake and Alabama Streets in Huntington Beach (where Utica deadends)
10/9/12 Sighting Huntington Beach Adult Coyote sighted trotting down alley between California And Huntington Streets, near Manning Park at 630 am today.  Ignored me as I opened garage door.
10/9/12 Injury Fountain Valley Adult and Pet Two older boys, one being around 6′ 4″ and their girlfriend were coming home late.

The boy went out to help his girlfriend unload the car, the dog followed.  When they went back inside, the dog was left outside for a few moments.   When the awful high pitched screams of the dog were heard, the boy jumped over a fence from a side entrance of the home to try to save the dog, “Freddie”.    Coyotes ran, but not before judging whether or not they could take down the boy of 6’4” and 205lbs.  Two men chased the coyotes; there were 2 on the driveway and 2 more on the street.  In total, 4 coyotes were involved in this attack.  It appeared that there were 2 coyotes guarding the corners and two coyotes making the attack on the driveway.

These animals were aggressive and smart.  They came within 10 feet of the front door.   They judged the dad and the son, before completely disappearing.

Both the boy and the dog were injured.   The dog was rushed to the Animal hospital and the owners had hundreds of dollars in vet bills.  The dog received stitches and a rabies vaccination.

This all happened in a matter of seconds.

In summary, there were 4 coyotes; two attacking on driveway, and two more coyotes were outside of the camera’s range.  Two large boys were there, one being a huge football player around 205lbs and 6′ 4″, and adult male, along with the girlfriend.  What you cannot hear is all the screaming for the dog, boys and father along with the girlfriend.

The owners have lived there since the 70′s.  They had no idea that the coyotes were living in the area.  They had found remains of dead cats recently, but did not know what had happened.   They quickly had removed the remains as there are many children in their area and they did not want to have them see such a sight.

10/9/12 Sighting Huntington Harbour None
10/9/12 Sighting Huntington Beach None Good sized coyote strolled passed me in the Alley in early morning hours.  Didn’t appear to fear my presence.  Yelled at it for a moment, it stopped then continued on it’s way.  I’ve seen signs for missing cats in area, wondering if Coyotes could be behind disappearances.
10/9/12 Sighting Huntington Beach None
10/8/12 Sighting Huntington Beach None I realized we are taking coyotes land by moved in and took over.  Unfortunately these wild animals are taking our pets as their meal.  I hope someday the city is going to do something to stop coyotes killing our pets.
10/8/12 Sighting Dana Point None Saw 2 coyotes in our community (Sea Ridge) driving home 10/8/2012.  One hiding in bushes at Discovery and Moonfire, near our home and one very large coyote walking up Discovery toward the other.  This is the third time this year we have seen coyotes in our neighborhood
10/6/12 Killed South Santa Ana Dog The coyote jumped the fence and took our beloved Maggie and killed her. She weighted 10lbs and was the light of our life.
10/6/12 Killed Huntington Beach Cat My cat would not come in that night.  We couldn’t find her in the morning and a neighbor told us he saw a coyote take her from in front of our house with three other coyotes standing nearby.  I had no idea coyotes were in our neighborhood.
10/6/12 Sighting Garden Grove Other Out watering the lawn that we just finished putting grass seeds down and there was one coyote by itself strolling down the street with its head down and didn’t look at me watering the lawn.  It was definately a coyote and it’s the first time we have ever saw one in our area.  We stay up very late at night and we usually take our dog and cat out with us and have never seen one before.
10/6/12 Killed Huntington Beach Cat
10/6/12 Sighting Mission Viejo None I saw 2 large coyotes walking down LaBarca near Ontur.  One stopped and just stared at me.  They finally turned and enter the greenbelt.  I was very surprised how large and healthy they looked.
10/5/12 Sighting Aliso Viejo None It was broad daylight. The coyote was just walking down the sidewalk. I was walking my two small dogs. He was watching us. A neighbor came out and scared it away. It was a pretty large size one, about the size of a German Shepherd.
10/5/12 Sighting Huntington Beach None I was watering the yard and saw the coyote walking down the sidewalk.  He just continued to stroll down the street at a casual pace.  Too close for comfort!!  Now that I read they can lunge at people, I guess I won’t be outside trying to follow him next time.  Sheesh
10/4/12 Killed Fountain Valley Cat At 6:30 a.m. on 10-04-12 I heard an unusual sound, so I went downstairs out my front door and turned to the right and peaked along the side of my house where the noise had come from.  I could see a silhouette shadow of a coyote with a cat hanging from his mouth.  I looked at the fence where my cat sat 10 minutes earlier and he was gone. So, I ran after the coyote and chased him all the way to the channel where the coyote headed south along the channel.  Then a second coyote appeared coming from the north and he just stared me down and proceeded south after the first coyote. I then realized that this was a pack of coyotes and not a transient.
10/3/12 Sighting Fountain Valley None I complained at about 2 years ago that they were living in the channel behind my house.  Haven’t seen them for 2 years until I heard the crows making a lot of noise at 1:30 in the afternoon. Went out to investigate  and saw 2 of them waliking on the path on the channel towards Talbert. After they disapeared I went back and looked over the wall again and they were back.. two of them , they looked well fed, Two years ago found the remains of a cat in the Talbert channel, took it down to city hall and had logged a complaint.
10/3/12 Sighting Mission Viejo None Coyote sighting, 10/3/2012, 7:41PM, corner of Alicia Parkway and Via Aurora, Mission Viejo.
10/3/12 Killed Huntington Beach Cat
10/2/12 Killed Laguna Niguel Cat
10/1/12 Sighting Irvine None This industrial park has numerous rabbits munching on grass at dusk, a possible food source.
10/1/12 Sighting Costa Mesa None I saw a coyote walking across the parking lot accross from IBM when it got to Scenic it went West in the middle of the street until some cars came along and it disappeared.  This was in the middle of the afternoon!
9/30/12 Killed Huntington Beach Cat Single large coyote chased off with dead cat in mouth. Large number of crows were screaming at animal but neighborhood dogs all quiet.
9/30/12 Sighting Irvine None
9/29/12 Sighting Huntington Beach Adult A coyote had been sleeping in the plant bed of a resident’s house 3 feet from the front door. Plants (miniature sego palms) were overgrown so thick that it was impossible to see the coyote…until it came out at 2:00PM. The coyote appeared to have been startled by something (the mailman?) and staggered sleepily from out of its hiding place in the plant bed, then inspected the neighbor’s yard, then walked lazily down the street. Residents followed, but lost the coyote at the end of the street. It hid in someone else’s front or backyard. One day after trimming the plants (and eliminating the hiding place) coyote scat was found in the backyard. Also, other residents on an adjacent street (in this same neighborhood) regularly see families of coyotes walking around in the neighborhood between 3AM and 4AM.
9/27/12 Sighting Huntington Beach None I want to report this sighting but don’t know who to call!  I have two small dogs in a very dog friendly neighborhood. There are also a lot of babies and small children around where I live.
9/24/12 Killed Brea Cat On Country Club Dr in Brea coyotes have been seen, and several cats have disappeared. In one case injured cat rescued from coyote in yard by owner. and had to be treated by vet..
9/22/12 Sighting Huntington Beach None
9/22/12 Killed Huntington Beach Cat
9/21/12 Sighting Huntington Beach None Coyote runs through neighbor and is spotted multiple times throughout the week.  We are not sure whether it is one coyote or multiple coyotes.  Coyote seen early this morning and several times crossed Adams Avenue, which is a major street.  We are afraid that this could lead to an accident and someone getting hurt.
9/13/12 Killed Newport Beach Cat Coyote killed neighbor’s cat, then coyote hit by bus on Placentia and killed as running out of mobile park.
9/4/12 Sighting Yorba Linda None In my ‘checking’ most mornings for several months, I see coyotes in the following areas in Yorba Linda. I do NOT drive on streets with no-outlets, just major streets in town. On Prospect, S of Imperial to the El Cajon Trail. On San Antonio, in the area N of Yorba Linda Blvd., going several blocks N on San Antonio. Yorba Ranch Rd, S from Yorba Linda Bvld to almost Esperanza Rd. These are just the recent sightings I have made. It is frightening how many people one sees out walking their dogs, as well as the joggers on the streets.
8/24/12 Killed Huntington Beach Dog A 60 lb pit bull mix was killed this week in our neighborhood by two coyotes. A neighbor came out to get his newspaper and two coyotes were feasting on a large pit bull mix in the middle of Brentstone Street in the Huntington Landmark tract. This is extremely alarming as there have been numerous coyote sightings lately with the animals becoming more and more brazen.
8/23/12 Killed Newport Beach Cat Our beloved 11 year old cat was savagely attacked and eaten by coyotes in my front yard in the Westcliff area Thursday (8/23). Since her gruesome death I have discovered so many more of my friends and neighbors that have either lost pets to coyotes or have seen them blatantly walking down our residential streets. Keep your beloved pets inside at dusk so this terrible tragedy does not happen to your family!
8/16/12 Killed Garden Grove Cat Since they killed my cat they continue to hunt in my neighborhood. They are a threat to everyone and their pets. Animal control is of no assistance. Bad luck to any coyotes found in my yard.
8/11/12 Killed Huntington Beach Cat Last night as I went out on my porch I heard barking/hissing@ 1am, 3 coyotes ganging up on a local domestic cat. I feel bad for animal owners that lose a pet like this, coyotes are RUTHLESS! Get them out of HB!!
8/6/12 Killed Huntington Beach Cat
8/5/12 Killed Huntington Beach Cat The lady living in Huntington Landmark that called my neighbor about finding her cat’s collar and remains per my earlier post, also mentioned that seven cats were killed recently within the Landmark complex by coyotes. So although that is a gated community, there obviously are many entrance points and coyotes can jump over high fences.
8/2/12 Sighting Huntington Beach None Two coyotes  frequent and sometimes live in this field. We see them daily and can sometimes hear them hunting at night  If you live anywhere in the Seagate/Seacliff area your pets are not safe.
8/1/12 Killed Huntington Beach Adult and Pet A large coyote was seen in front of my residence about 5:00 a.m. on Magnolia and Village, below Adams and up from on Indianapolis,Wednesday, August 1, 2012. The next day a neighbor reported that her older cat was missing and a day later a lady from Landmark called her to say the remains were found and the collar had her telephone number on it. Our complex handyman said he ecountered one in a garage and there was a staredown before the coyote left, this during the middle of the day.
8/1/12 Sighting San Juan Capistrano Cat
8/1/12 Sighting None Coyote on top of the flood channel off of Graham in between Slater and Warner
7/19/12 Killed Huntington Beach Cat A coyote took our beloved cat 7/9/12, Delaware and Hartford. We moved here a year ago and NO ONE shared this information with us. Please approach all new “move in’s” and tell them before its too late.
7/1/12 Sighting Irvine Cat This pack of 3 coyotes has made itself at home here and have killed many cats and dogs.
6/28/12 Killed Huntington Beach Cat Kitty killed by coyotes Springdale/Edwards. Bolsa Park tract
6/21/12 Sighting Huntington Beach None I was surprised to see a coyote in the La Questa Racquet club townhouse community (bascially Memphis & Delaware) at 7:20 Thursday June 21,2012. It looked like it was hunting for food. Lots of possums and squirrels live in the greenbelt. It was pretty big. Probably as big as my german shepherd.

Please keep your animals indoors from dark to late morning. It could save their life!!! Also, if the food source dries up, perhaps they will go elswhere. I have full respect for mother nature. And I know the coyotes where here way before we were. None the less, we have to find a way for all to exists safely. I don’t want to see any coyote hurt. I just don’t want them wandering around in my neighborhood killing my freinds cats.

6/16/12 Killed Huntington Beach Cat Our cat was attacked 3:00 a.m. June 16th off of Beach and Newman – neighbors happened to be awake and saw two of them chasing our cat under a car – fortunately he fought and got away but was injured and has had surgery – very costly I might add – the two approached our cat again on our steps to our apartment and the same neighbor shoed them away again – very aggressive animals…..
5/20/12 Killed Newport Beach Cat
5/13/12 Sighting Huntington Beach None Large coyote sighted in backyard trees between houses, 20 feet from backdoor.  Child was playing in the side yard at the time. 6:15pm evening. I am 6 foot tall and 260lbs…I yelled and waved my arms to try to scare it away, it stared me down and walked away unconcerned.
10/26/11 Killed Huntington Beach Cat Sunshine a poly(extra toes) and Bengal/Manx cat was killed. This was my 3rd cat eaten by coyotes. I had begun to take precautions. I kept my cats inside from 5:00PM  to 9:00AM. I was under the false impression that they were safe during daylight hours. I now see the coyotes roaming my street at all hours of the day almost daily
10/1/10 Killed Westminster Cat
1/1/07 Killed Huntington Beach Cat Romeo a golden Bengal was killed by coyotes
1/1/05 Killed Huntington Beach Cat Stomper polydactyl cat was killed be coyote. We only found his head.

Our beloved Boo was killed by a coyote right here in a coldasac on Babb/Denver, he will be missed, we never knew there was a coyote problem in heavy residential area but they are smart and clever after reading these articles about other people and there pets. Warning to all, DONT LEAVE YOUR PETS UNATTENDED OUTSIDE, they are smart and becoming very brave.

My cat has been missing for weeks now. Pretty sure a coyote got him. Why can’t these animals be brought to the wild animal park or baits set for them. It’s horrible! Our pets have no freedom now!
